The mirror test is a measure meant to determine visual self-awareness; the degree to which a being recognizes itself is the metric by which it passes or fails. A Mirror Within Which To Disappear proposes an additional thesis: the ability to question whether or not the reflected image constitutes the Self is the measure by which one may begin to determine whether said being approaches consciousness.
